why do boys like to be girls?
maybe its just me, but i find it a lil....erm....odd, that 95% of the female characters (i've talked to) in GW are played by "males." it becomes even more...erm..interesting..when u consider that GW is a role playing game, and part of its main feature is building and developing a character u can ..erm..identify with. the Freudian implications are breathtaking.
ive asked a few "males" why they play females and the one constant answer is that they "like to look at them." while i admit the female characters, like much of the scenery, are atheistically pleasing, i find it rather desperate that males would create a female character just to stare at its cartoon booty in combat. i mean, if u like the female form, fine, meet some real life girls and stare at them.
freedom of expression is great, but man is it creepy when a half-naked female character called Princess Angel chats with me and i find out its a 37 year old male plumber from jersey.
unless one of you girly-boys sets the record straight (pun intended), the obvious choices for a conclusion are:
1. GW has a ton of virtual pervs
2. GW has a ton of closet dwellers
3. Kurt Cobain was right......everyone is gay
Bram (plz, call me princess)

Because there is nothing like watching a little rangers butt bounce around while you are slaughtering innocent charrs!
No, really. I make my main character male, and all of my alts female.
Now.. the difference comes in if you actually flirt with people with your female character.

So since making a female character somehow correlates to homosexuality or perversion, I guess everyone that has a ranger must be an archer in real life....

I have my two char's, 'Sekkira Nendedaga' and my pvp 'Yuskei Sto Helit'(bonus points if you recognise where the last name is from). I also have an experimental one, 'Elemental Henchwoman' which was really meant to be a joke as a pure Elementalist build (female because I couldn't have it ending with 'Henchman' and it would look too silly for my tastes to have it as a male with 'Henchwoman', I do however, still get mistaken for the actual henchmen, which amuses me so.). I found though, that it can do alot of damage very quickly.
When I play AO though, I prefer to play women as the male builds look like something you'd pull out of a meat grinder. It all comes down to what you find aesthetically pleasing. I personally don't mind my Sekkira running around wearing the cool-hat pyromancer robes on the sands of Kryta, that's just stunning and looks bad-ass at the same time.

at the end of the day most people are attacted to the opposite sex and most people enjoy looking, so really most people are perverts. Myself i never use a female avatar as my rp character is more that of a knight or something. I like to help the weak and treat the girls so i get quite unsettled when i find out the girl id been treating is really a guy so now, well im jus alot more resurved.

i'm a guy, and i wanted a necromancer, but the male one (in my opinion) looks absolutely hideous..... so...
also i prefer to have spellcasters female. dunno why. just do.
i will however, make my warrior (when i eventually create one to get more skills if i ever venture into pvp) male...

We have a winner.
I used the female ranger wallpaper at work and all my non-gamer workers were drooling over my screen.

Don't try me anyway, i know when a guy is on a female avie however gay they may act. No offence to those who are gay.

I've seen this "penomenon" in every online game I have ever played, and it still doesn't bother me in the slightest.
If a guy wants to play with a female character, why not? Is it the implication that the player may be homosexual? Is it some threat to their masculinity?
*Shrug.*

Because it's a ROLEPLAYING game.
Go to the rp boards on this forum, and learn what that means if you don't already.
You create a character, not necessarily the same age or gender as yourself and act out situations from their point of view.
As long as the men do not claim to be female in real life, I truly see nothing wrong with it and do not see how it is anybody elses business how they play the game.

I am in complete agreement with this post. The entire point of roleplaying games is to be somebody else for a while, it's a form of escapism.
About your last point, though... When I'm playing a female character and am asked if I'm female "IRL", I usually say that I'm not. I can't stand people who spoil roleplaying by asking such pointless questions, those people need to go outside and get some fresh air methinks, maybe find some women whom they can speak with face-to-face instead of over chat.
